Lawrenceville has implemented a 9 p.m. curfew Monday night following protests across the metro area.

City Manager Chuck Warbington said City Hall will close at 3 p.m. in the Gwinnett County city. A protest is scheduled for 5 p.m. at City Hall.

Lawrenceville is the second city, behind Atlanta, to implement a curfew in the metro area. The decision comes after two days of protests in the city following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, which has sparked protests nationwide. Floyd died in police custody and an officer has been fired and charged with his death.

Warbington said a handful of people were arrested in the city Sunday night after hitting cars, throwing rocks and refusing to leave the street, but a protest earlier in the day was peaceful.

In a statement, the city said it could consider extending the curfew into Tuesday and Wednesday. A Monday public meeting has also been canceled.
